about the artist

“The more I photograph, the more I am reminded of the beauty that hides right before our eyes. Photography forces me to take the time to see and record the interesting vignettes that make up our world. Beauty and interest are everywhere-we just need to take the time to see them.”
                                            -Photographer Roy J. Barloga

Looking back, it’s not hard to believe that Roy Barloga would become a photographer. Nurtured in a family atmosphere that included the arts and education, Roy was taught by example that work could be pleasurable, as well as meaningful. At an early age he began helping his father, a professional photographer, around the studio. His first love, however, was graphic design. By the end of high school his abilities earned him a partial four year scholarship from the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation to attend one of the top graphic communications schools in the country. Throughout college Roy continued to enjoy the rewards of learning from his father’s color photography, yet his own creative yearning began to develop towards black and white. At graduation, he became a full-time partner and, through Barloga Studios, began to sell his own black & white and toned imagery. Roy’s design background is evident in his compositions which are sometimes unusual but always graphically strong. His work is available through various shops and galleries throughout the United States.
